 Reps. Smith and Thornberry | The House Committee on Armed Services held a hearing last week titled, “Department of Defense’s Support to the Southern Border," during which it examined the deployment of U.S. troops on the U.S. southwestern border, as well as the President’s threat to declare a national emergency as a way of diverting funds from the Department of Defense in order to fund the construction of a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico. |
Two Administration witnesses testified at the hearing. However, the fireworks did not occur until shortly after the hearing, when it became known that the President was about to deploy thousands more active duty troops to border but that the witnesses failed to inform the Committee of the President’s plans
