Monday, March 13, 2017
The most prominent action on those matters taking place this week will be the expected release on either Wednesday or Thursday of President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2018 budget blueprint. The release is expected to propose deep cuts in refugee funding and large increases in immigration enforcement- and border security-related funding relative to fiscal year 2017 and fiscal year 2016 spending.
Also this week, various committees of the House and Senate are scheduled to hold hearings on such immigration-related matters as the integrity of the vetting of applicants for immigration benefits vetting and fraud in the K-1 Fiancé visa program.
Outside of Washington, court proceedings are either scheduled or possible during the week in Hawaii, Maryland, and Seattle on efforts to block portions of President Donald J. Trump's revised refugee admissions/travel ban executive order.
In all, the week's schedule includes four hearings, two mark-up sessions, and possible floor action on as many as 15 measures that either touch on immigration, refugees, or the Department of Homeland Security.
