  • Members Day Appropriations Hearing:  The House Committee on Appropriations has scheduled a hearing for this week to receive testimony from Members of Congress on their appropriations priorities for fiscal year 2021.  The hearing is scheduled for 10:00 am EDT on Tuesday, June 23, 2020.  It will be held remotely and available to be viewed on the internet.

  • Hearing on Federal Courts During the COVID-19 Pandemic:  The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet has scheduled a hearing for this week titled, "Federal Courts During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Best Practices, Opportunities for Innovation, and Lessons for the Future." The hearing is scheduled for 9:00 am EDT on Thursday, June 25, 2020, in Room 2141 of the Rayburn House Office Building. 
Witnesses:  Testifying at the hearing were David G. Campbell, Senior U.S. judge for the District of Arizona and chair of the Judicial Conference of the United States' Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure; Bridget M. McCormack, Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court; Jeremy Fogel, Executive Director of the Berkeley Judicial Institute in the University of California, Berkeley School of Law; and Melissa Wasser, Policy Analyst for Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.

  • House Floor Consideration of the "Justice in Policing Act of 2020":  The full U.S. House of Representatives is expected this week to take up H.R. 7120, the "Justice in Policing Act of 2020", which contains several immigration-related provisions.  The bill is tentatively scheduled for floor consideration on Thursday, June 25, 2020.  The House Committee on the Judiciary marked up and approved the measure on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.

  • Hearing on Customs and Border Protection Oversight:  The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs has scheduled a hearing for this week titled, "CBP (Customs and Border Protection) Oversight: Examining the Evolving Challenges Facing the Agency."  The hearing is scheduled for 9:30 am EDT on Thursday, June 25, 2020, in Room SD-562 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.. 
Witnesses:  Scheduled to testify at the hearing is Mark Morgan, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

  • Senate Floor Consideration of the "JUSTICE Act":  The full U.S. Senate is expected this week to begin parliamentary skirmishing in connection with the Senate Majority Leader's effort to bring S. 3985, the “Just and Unifying Solutions To Invigorate Communities Everywhere Act of 2020” or the “JUSTICE Act” to the Senate floor. While the  measure does not contain any immigration provisions, it could become the target for immigration-related floor amendments.  The maneuvering could begin as soon as Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

  • Senate Floor Consideration of the "National Defense Authorization Act, Fiscal Year 2021":  The full U.S. Senate today is scheduled to continue consideration of the McConnell (R-KY) motion to motion to proceed to S. 4049, the fiscal 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, which contains several immigration-related provisions.
